The Pickwick is a small time-only clock with a folding back easel stand, compact for travel or handbag use. It was introduced in 1934 and uses a 2" pocketwatch movement. Designed by Max Schlenker. They came in back and nickel, ivory and brass, and mint green cases. This is the Ivory and Brass version and comes with its original attractive red, black and white box, Westclox hangtag, and the instruction and guaranty sheet. The guaranty was signed by Erma Johnson of Wiley Ford, W. Virginia noting the purchase date of November 9, 1936.
The case is an early composite thermoplastic, most likely Plaskon, and is in good shape with no chips or cracks and mostly shiny original finish. The brass parts show some wear, the front bezel in particular. The square deco designed dial is beautiful, with bright square chapter ring. The luminous material of the hour numerals no longer glows and has darkened with age. The openwork sword hands were originally filled with the same material but it was crumbling and has been cleanly removed. There is a seconds dial at the bottom of the time dial. The glass has some light scratching but is mostly clear and shiny. The brass easel back has an old weld repair to the hinge.
The 2" movement is in clean functioning order and is keeping good time. It has "4 17 36" stamped on the movement plate for a production date of April 17, 1936.
This clock is 3" high.
