Seth Thomas "Coloraide" Blue Lucite White Plastic Mod Electric Wall Clock 1970s

$163.00

These Seth Thomas "Coloraide" clocks are great for adding a focal point of vibrant color with added light and shadow drama. I have had one Orange one and have seen one other Aqua blue but they have been hard to find. The translucent colored Lucite dial floats over a deeply dished white plastic frame. White outlined numbers cast clean shadows inside the frame. There are interesting possibilities with directed lighting on these. The exposed hands are simple clean lines of bright gloss white.

The plastic case is clean and shiny with nothing more than light scratching, no chips or cracks. It was probably a brighter white when new but has darkened to ivory and cream from exposure to light over time. The dial plate is clear and shiny with a little very faint scratching save for one scratch on the top of the 5, which does cast its own shadow. The hands are freshly repainted, clean and bright. Time is set by turning the knurled nut on the minute hand. These types of exposed hands can be annoying in that they can be accidentally dislodged.

The motor is a version of the General Time M5 motor, set into what is called a "fit up" movement because it could be fit into many styles of clocks, sort of like the modern quartz movements. It is clean and keeping time quietly. The vintage off-white cord is intact and fairly flexible.

This clock is a little over 9" in diameter and is about 2-1/2" deep.
