Westclox "Electric Wall Clock" Manual Start 1934

$230.00

This lovely Art Deco clock was the first electric wall clock produced by Westclox, still known as the Western Clock Company at the time. The case is ivory Plaskon, an early Mellon Institute thermoplastic favored by Westclox. It was designed by Max Schlenker and was first introduced in 1931. The underside of the movement plate has "6 34" stamped on it for a production date of June 1934. The design was changed in 1935. It has the manual start S2 electric motor. The video shows the manual start in action. On a cold motor, as in this case, it may take more than one spin.

Condition: The case is clean and shiny with no chips, cracks, or noticeable scratches. The original green painted bezel is in good condition. The glass is clear and shiny with no noticeable scratches. The painted steel dial is in good condition with no noticeable marks. The wonderful Art Deco stepped hands are in very good condition. The brass second hand is lightly tarnished.

The movement has been cleaned, the pivots lightly oiled, and lithium grease lightly applied to the fiber wheel. The coil has new insulating sleeves on the leads. The motor operates quietly with smooth operation of the sweep second hand. The vintage brown cord is clean and supple but is attached to the motor leads with caps for easy cord replacement if desired. The clock is clean inside and out.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Old electrics are inherently dangerous for daily use, even when refurbished and brought up to original condition. They don't meet modern code. Use cautiously with knowledge of the risk.

This clock is about 6-1/2" square.
